In the period from April 18 to 20, 2017, the 71st International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas-2017» was held at the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University», timed to coincide with the IV National Oil and Gas Forum. In 2017, the conference was attended by more than 2000 students, postgraduates, young scientists, specialists, and schoolchildren from 300 educational institutions and industry organizations in Russia and abroad.
The conference was supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Russian Gas Society.
The general information partner of the event was the RIA Novosti agency of the Rossiya Segodnya media group.
The conference was opened by Professor Alexander Muradov, Vice-Rector for Research at Gubkin University, with a welcome address from the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva. «The conference promotes the popularization of scientific activities among young people, which, in turn, is positively reflected in improving the level of professional training of future specialists. The range of issues discussed at the conference, from the basics of mineral exploration and exploration to the legal aspects of subsurface use, will contribute not only to solving the tasks set, but also to exploring innovative ways to develop the industry», the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia said. Then with a greeting from the Minister of energy Russian Federation Alexander Novak, the Director of the Department of production and transportation of oil and gas Ministry of energy of Russia Alexander Gladkov.
Olivier Lazard, Chairman of the Shell Group in Russia, Gokhan Saig, President of Schlumberger Russia and Central Asia, and Dmitry Chasskikh, General Director of the Russian branch of Halliburton International GmbH, also addressed the participants, guests and organizers of the conference.
«The International Youth Scientific Conference is a good occasion to discuss the future challenges facing the country's gas industry», Pavel Krylov, Head of the Gazprom Department, said at the opening of the program part of the plenary session, who made a report on the development and implementation of promising domestic technologies and equipment in the company, touching upon the issues of creating a complex for underwater production of hydrocarbons on the shelf, storage and transportation of LNG using Russian-made equipment and materials.
Sergey Matrosov, Head of the Department of Gazprom Neft, continued the topic of offshore projects in his speech, focusing on environmental safety in the development of hydrocarbon resources in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation on the example of the company's operation of the sea ice-resistant stationary platform «Prirazlomnaya».
Next, the Head of the company's Department, Yuri Pihtovnikov, made a report on the main areas of work with the young generation, professional development programs and professional training of young specialists implemented at PJSC LUKOIL.
The main tasks that are being solved by modern Russian oil workers and will be solved by future young specialists when entering new fields were highlighted in his speech by the Director of the Department of PJSC NOVATEK, Eduard Tropin.
The plenary session ended with a report by the President of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia, Gennady Shmal, on the role of Russia in the global oil and gas market.

In 2017, the conference traditionally held a meeting without ties, where participants had the opportunity to ask any question of interest to the heads of oil and gas companies. The meeting was moderated by Alexander Muradov, Vice-Rector for Research at Gubkin University, and the speakers were Olivier Lazard, Chairman of Shell in Russia, Sergey Pershin, HR Director at Schlumberger Russia and Central Asia, Dmitry Chasskikh, General Director of the Russian branch of Halliburton International GmbH,and Eduard Tropin, Director of the Department at NOVATEK. At the meeting, questions were asked about the prospects for the development of the oil and gas industry, new markets for Russian hydrocarbons, the implementation of joint projects of Russian and foreign companies, and the role of student science in the formation of an innovative scientific and technical base of industry enterprises, internships, internships and employment in leading oil and gas companies. The meeting without ties was sponsored by Shell.
According to the program, the conference continued with 13 main breakout sessions. In total, more than 800 scientific papers in 23 thematic areas were presented during the two days of the conference. Expert commissions in each of the areas noted the growing interest of young people in conducting scientific activities and an increase in the level of study of the submitted works in general.
On the second day of the conference, one of the key events was the full-time stage of the II All-Russian competition for the best student Scientific Association of the Russian Oil and Gas industry, where the winners of the correspondence stage – the 10 best teams of universities in our country-presented their projects. According to the regulations on the competition, student scientific associations had to prepare a project for the development of energy, the development of hydrocarbon resources and the ecology of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. In the works submitted for the competition, the students tried to present the concept of innovative development of the Arctic energy industry, taking into account the increased requirements for the environmental safety of the region. The competition for the best student scientific association was sponsored by OJSC Severneftegazprom.
In 2017, as part of the conference, at the initiative of the Youth Council of the Oil and Gas Industry under the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, an intellectual game was held for the first time among the youth of the oil and gas industry, which was attended by 39 teams from universities and enterprises of the industry. For the victory in the game, the organizers established a passing prize «Oil Owl» - a crystal owl completely filled with real oil. According to the results of the First All-Russian Intellectual Game among the youth of the oil and gas industry, the winner was the team of young specialists of Zarubezhneft JSC, the second and third places were taken by the teams of Giprotruboprovod JSC and NIIgazekonomika LLC, respectively. The partners of the game were the National Oil and Gas Forum and the NEFTEGAZ Exhibition.
20 APR 2017 awarding ceremony of the winners of the conference, competition and intellectual games, which was attended by the assistant of the Department of public service and of military training of the energy Ministry of Russia Alexander Chudniv, Director of NPF Packer LLC Marat Nagumanov and Vice-rector of Gubkin University Alexander Muradov. «I congratulate the winners, laureates and participants of the conference, the competition and the intellectual game on their successful completion. I am sure that holding such events contributes to solving the problems facing the Russian fuel and energy sector», said Alexander Novak, the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, in his address to the laureates of the event.
The winners of the conference were awarded diplomas of the I degree, prizes, subscribe to the print edition and gifts from the publishing house «Nedra» and «Kommersant», and the command of the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University» as the best student scientific Association of oil and gas industry in Russia in the 2016 challenge Cup and diplomas.
Gifts to the winners and prize-winners of the conference were provided by the official sponsors of the conference: Schlumberger Russia and Central Asia and NPF Packer LLC.
Halliburton has established special prizes for the best youth research papers in the company's field of work. The winner of the main prize from the company – cash grant was a student of Gubkin University Imam Masaliev.
The final event of the conference was the regular meeting of the Youth Council of the Oil and Gas Industry under the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, where the interim results of the implementation of the Youth Council's work plan for 2017 were reported. «At the moment, the Youth Council has successfully implemented the following projects: development of the catalogue of scientific research and development for oil and gas industry of Russia photography competition fuel and energy complex «Energy of modern Russia» all-Russian intellectual game among the youth of the oil and gas industry», said in greeting to the participants of the meeting, the Minister of energy Russian Federation Alexander Novak.
