On September 11-15, 2023, Gubkin University, with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, hosted the International Forum «Oil and Gas – 2023», which brought together 700 scientists, specialists and students of the fuel and energy complex.

At the opening of the forum, the President of the Union of Oil and Gas Industrialists of Russia, Shmal Gennady Iosifovich, made a welcoming speech. In his speech, Gennady Iosifovich congratulated the participants and noted that the forum has long been a traditional event that gathers and unites a large number of students, teachers, scientists and specialists of the oil and gas complex. During the speech, special attention was paid to the issue of the successful development of the Russian oil and gas industry in the face of sanctions.

As part of the opening of the forum, an agreement on mutual cooperation between Gubkin University and GEOTECH JSC was signed. The parties plan to make joint efforts to improve the quality of training of young specialists, provide them with the opportunity to complete industrial and pre-graduate practice, as well as further employment of graduates in GEOTECH JSC and its subsidiaries.

One of the main events of the forum was the strategic panel session «New world-class Russian Technologies in the Fuel and Energy Sector», which was attended by Viktor Georgievich Martynov, Rector of Gubkin University, David Zakirovich Gadzhimirzaev, President of JSC OFS Technologies, and Pavel Alexandrovich Revel-Muroz, Vice President of Transneft PJSC. The key topics of the session were the development of the education system for new personnel of the country's fuel and energy complex in the context of abandoning the Bologna system, new technologies and deep digitalization of the oil and gas industry and their impact on the industry, localization of technologies and production in Russia of high-tech equipment for the needs of oil and gas services, implementation of environmental initiatives and the introduction of alternative energy sources in the oil and gas industry, the interaction of companies with higher and secondary educational institutions. During the discussion, it was noted that domestic companies demonstrate successful results in the localization and production of high-tech equipment in Russia and continue to consistently increase efforts in this direction.

The closed round table «Sustainable Development: moving East» discussed issues of import substitution of the ESG rating through ECG rating, risks or opportunities for the mining industry in the implementation of projects in the Far East, opportunities for international cooperation to solve water and environmental problems in Central Asia, cross-border transfers of pollutants, ESG transformation of the real sector of the Siberian economy and environmentaleconomic projects of subsurface use. The event was aimed at the partners of the educational, scientific and industrial consortium «Mining and Oil and gas industry. The Eastern vector». 
On the opening day of the forum, an exhibition of developments by scientists from Gubkin University was held. Within the framework of the exhibition, the forum participants were presented with unique technologies and samples of scientific developments used in the oil and gas industry. The exhibition was attended by the laboratory for the study of physical fields of the Department of Development and Operation of Oil Fields, the laboratory of autonomous robotic systems and technologies for ensuring the safety of fuel and energy facilities, the Gubkin Drone student scientific circle, the Department of Information and Measurement Systems and other departments of Gubkin University.

During the second and third days, the 77th International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas - 2023» was held within the framework of the forum. Scientific papers that have passed the stage of preliminary examination are presented in 23 thematic sections. The authors of the best works were awarded with special prizes. Also, within the framework of the last conference, works were selected for submission to the Competition for the best research project among students and undergraduates of partner universities of PJSC Gazprom.

The fourth day of the forum began with the International Programming Championship «Digital Oil», which is held among the youth of enterprises, organizations and educational institutions of the oil and gas industry. The theme of this year's championship was «The application of platform solutions for the construction of automated control systems». The championship is aimed at identifying and unlocking the potential of talented, promising, young specialists in the field of information technology. The task of the championship was proposed by Gazprom Neft PJSC. The experts were employees of Gazprom Neft PJSC, Gazprom Automation PJSC and teachers of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering of Gubkin University.

The problems of the development and activities of oil and gas industry organizations were discussed in detail within the framework of the already integral part of the forum of the XVI All-Russian Scientific and Technical Conference «Actual problems of the development of the oil and gas complex of Russia». Within the framework of nine panel sessions, issues of exploration and development of hard-to-recover and unconventional oil and gas reserves, improving the efficiency of production, transportation and storage of hydrocarbons, import independence of the domestic oil and gas industry, industry readiness for full-scale digitalization, talent management, uncertainties and opportunities of the global energy market and integrated security of critical infrastructure were presented and considered.

An active and persistent struggle for the cup unfolded in the final of the VII Contest for the best Russian student scientific society of the oil and gas industry, held within the framework of the Oil and Gas 2023 forum. The theme of this year's contest was defined as «Import substitution: the development of Russian technologies for the fuel and energy sector – equipment, technologies, LNG». Twelve best teams of student associations of industrial and technical universities of the country presented the results of their work for the year. By the decision of the jury, the team of the Student Section of the International Society of Engineers of the Oil and Gas Industry (Gubkin University) was recognized as the best student scientific association, the second was the team of the student science society of «Arctic Scientific Society» (Tyumen Industrial University), the third was the student science society of Gubkin University.

Issues of integrated subsurface use within the coal mining and oil and gas industry, cooperation in the creation of enterprise infrastructure, as well as the possibility of coordinated joint planning for the development of geological massifs, building production and environmental safety systems were discussed at a closed round table meeting «Methane extraction from coal seams of Kuzbass. Creation of a new sub-branch of the fuel and energy sector». The event was timed to coincide with the celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Academy of Mining Sciences.

On the closing day of the Oil and Gas 2023 forum, participants had a unique opportunity to ask their questions at a meeting without ties with representatives of oil and gas companies and departments. In 2023, representatives of the councils of young scientists and specialists Semyon Sergeevich Tsybin (LLC RN-BashNIPIneft), Nikita Vladimirovich Badryzlov (LLC Gazprom VNIIGAZ) and Dmitry Viktorovich Demin, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences, met with beginners and already established specialists. During the meeting, topical issues related to measures to support young people and the implementation of ideas of young specialists in companies, opportunities for development in companies, career growth and professional development, events to support scientific research in companies were raised, and the possibility of creating a council of young scientists and specialists in the field of oil and gas was discussed.

Also, within the framework of the forum, a master class was held for participants on the topic «Transition to a new format of a regulatory document - a «smart» standard that is understandable by cyberphysical information systems».
