From April 22 to 26, 2024, Gubkin University, with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, hosted the International Forum «Oil and Gas – 2024», which brought together more than 1,000 scientists, specialists and students of the fuel and energy complex.

The main event of the opening of the forum was the strategic panel session «The Future of the oil and gas sector in the context of the global energy transition», which was attended by Viktor Martynov, Rector of Gubkin University, Andrey Alekseev, Commercial Director of JSC OFS Technologies, and Pavel Krylov, First Deputy General Director of Ruskhimalliance LLC. The session was moderated by Sergey Romanov, Deputy General Director of the REA of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation. The key topics of the strategic panel session were issues related to breakthrough technologies, including in the field of hydrogen energy, renewable and alternative energy sources, import substitution and development of domestic production, extraction of hard-to-recover reserves, as well as the environmental and climate agenda. Special attention was paid to the issues of personnel training for the oil and gas industry. During the session, Rector of Gubkin University Viktor Martynov welcomed all participants and guests of the forum, and also noted that the International Forum «Oil and Gas – 2024» is the main scientific and technical event among the youth of the oil and gas industry, which gathers all the sectoral scientific and technical personnel of the country within the walls of Gubkin University.

On the first day of the forum, a traditional exhibition opened its doors, presenting the most advanced developments of scientists from Gubkin University and other organizations of the oil and gas industry. The laboratory of autonomous robotic systems and technologies for ensuring the safety of fuel and energy facilities, the Gubkin Drone student scientific circle, the Department of Information and Measurement Systems, the Center for Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality, the Department of Automation of Technological Processes, the Interdepartmental Center for Engineering Developments and other divisions of Gubkin University took part in the exhibition. In addition, the Publishing Holding Infra-M and the Research Institute Nedra-Test became participants of the exhibition.

On the second and third days of the forum, the 78th International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas – 2024» was held. Scientific papers that have passed the preliminary examination stage were presented at the conference in 23 thematic sections. Experts at the conference were more than 190 specialists from oil and gas industry organizations. The authors of the best works were awarded with special prizes.

The third day of the forum began with the start of the III International Programming Championship «Digital Oil», which is held among the youth of enterprises, organizations and educational institutions of the oil and gas industry. The theme of the 2024 championship was «The compilation of an effective regression-distributive model of the interaction of molecules with the surface of materials with visualization». Eight teams took part in the championship, which had to offer a case solution on a given topic within 24 hours. The task of the championship was proposed by the teachers of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering of Gubkin University. Gazprom Automation PJSC was the partner of the programming championship. The championship was won by the team «Boas» (Gubkin University), the second place was taken by the team «Oil Bytes» (Almetyevsk State Petroleum Institute), the third place was taken by the team «Nouneymy» (Moscow State University of Civil Engineering).

On the fourth day, within the framework of the International Forum «Oil and Gas – 2024», the fight for the cup of the VIII Contest for the best Russian student scientific society of the oil and gas industry unfolded. The theme of the contest in 2024 was «Creating a smart and sustainable fuel and energy sector: innovative strategies for optimization, decarbonization and safety». 11 best teams of student scientific societies of the country took part in the contest. By the decision of the jury, the team of the student scientific society of Gubkin University was recognized as the best student scientific society, the second was the team of the student branch of the International Society of Engineers of the Oil and Gas Industry (Tyumen Industrial University), the third was the youth scientific association (St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University).

The problems of the development and activities of oil and gas industry organizations were discussed in detail within the framework of the XVII All-Russian Scientific and Technical Conference «Actual problems of the development of the oil and gas complex». Within the framework of two panel sessions, issues of experience and technical innovations in the oil and gas and energy industries, as well as challenges and solutions to ensure the development of the oil and gas complex were presented and considered.

For the second time, the round table «Sustainable development: Moving East» was held within the framework of the forum. The round table brought together young scientists and established specialists who discussed topical issues and issues of ESG banking, consideration of geo-ecological factors in assessing the carbon footprint, international and national regulation of greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable development of urbanized territories (oil and gas cities) and other topics. In addition to the presentations of specialists, the participants of the round table also heard and discussed reports from students of Gubkin University and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

An important event of the forum was the IV Moscow International Forum «Energy Security. The Eurasian scenario». The event is timed to coincide with the Day of Remembrance of Those Killed in Radiation Accidents and Catastrophes, established on the anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. The main objective of the event is to consider, from the point of view of the humanities and technical sciences, a complex of modern and relevant issues for the Eurasian space to ensure state security in the energy sector.

On the last day of the International Oil and Gas 2024 Forum, a meeting was held without ties with representatives of oil and gas companies and departments, at which forum participants could ask their questions. The meeting was attended without ties by Yuri Dubinov, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of Gubkin University, Albert Salimgaraev, Head of the Department for Project Activities of Rimer JSC, Vladimir Doronin, Sales Director of the Well Completion and Cattle Department of OFS Technologies JSC, and Valery Semikin, Chief Specialist of the scientific and methodological group of Gazprom Automation PJSC. During the meeting, topical issues were raised regarding the involvement of young people by companies to solve practical and scientific-practical problems of the oil and gas industry, the feasibility of a startup program in universities together with companies, digitalization and robotization of the industry and their impact on the demand for highly qualified personnel.

The forum was organized by the student scientific society. The Council of Young Scientists of Gubkin University provided assistance in the implementation.
