April 14-16, 2014 in Moscow at the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University» held the 68th International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas - 2014». The event was supported by the leading oil and gas companies: Schlumberger, Halliburton, JSC Tatneft named after V.D. Shashina, Sakhalin Energy, Shell Exploration and Production Services (RF) B.V., JSC ANK Bashneft, JSC RITEK, JSC Surgutneftegaz, NPF Packer LLC.

Being one of the largest youth forums in the field of oil and gas education (annually more than 800 participants), the conference is becoming an effective platform for strengthening scientific and business cooperation between Russian and foreign specialists in order to implement promising projects in the field of training young personnel. Today, the oil and gas industry around the world is in dire need of new technologies to improve the efficiency of fields with unconventional reserves, at a late stage of development, deep-water fields, commissioning new fields, etc. This, in turn, undoubtedly emphasizes the relevance of such events.

This year more than 1000 reports in twelve sections were announced for the conference. In addition to representatives from the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin, students and postgraduates from other universities in Russia took part in the conference:

Tyumen, Ufa, Ukhta, Almetyevsk, Samara, Volgograd, Tomsk, Kazan, Perm, Krasnodar, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Astrakhan, Krasnoyarsk, Belgorod, Moscow; foreign universities: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan; young specialists from oil and gas companies of Russia: TatNIPIneft, OJSC RITEK, OJSC Tatneft named after V.D. Shashin, subsidiaries of JSC Gazprom, JSC ANK Bashneft, Schlumberger and others, as well as schoolchildren from Moscow, the Moscow region and other regions of Russia. One of the directions of the conference - School Scientific Society, has been held for the 5th year and has become a good tradition, which gives future applicants an opportunity to orient themselves in the choice of profession and university, to feel the "spirit" of higher education.

The conference was opened by the vice-rector for scientific work of the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University», professor Muradov A.V., who is one of the key figures in the development of youth science at the university. Alexander Vladimirovich noted the undoubted growth of scientific achievements of students and graduate students over the past year. Further, the advisor to the rector for international work of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkina, professor Zolotukhin A.B. The plenary session continued with a speech by E.V. Zhdanova, Director of the Marketing and Business Planning Department of Halliburton, who in her report highlighted the main ways of developing cooperation between the company and the university. The Plenary Session ended with a speech by the head of projects for the oil and gas complex of the state corporation Rosatom Mustafinov A.R. on the use of nuclear energy in the oil and gas complex.

Further, the work of the conference continued in the following areas:

1. Geology, prospecting and exploration of oil and gas fields;
2. Development of oil and gas fields, well drilling
3. Design, construction and operation of pipeline transport systems;
4. Engineering and applied mechanics of the oil and gas complex;
5. Chemical technology and ecology in the oil and gas industry
6. Automation and computer technology in the oil and gas business;
7. Humanities;
8. Economics and management in the oil and gas industry;
9. International energy business;
10. Legal support for the development of the oil and gas industry;
11. Presentation of scientific reports in English;
12. School Scientific Society.

The jury of the breakout sessions noted the high and high quality level of the youth research work.

The winners and laureates received gifts and souvenirs with the symbols of the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University» and the general sponsor of the conference, Schlumberger. In turn, Halliburton awarded the project of one of the participants with a special cash grant for the best research work in the field of mechanical engineering in the oil and gas complex. The holder of this grant was a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University» Baranov Anton Sergeevich. Also, NPF Packer LLC awarded 6 of the most promising works in the field of the company's activity.

The Nedra Publishing House, in particular the General Information Partner of the conference - the editorial office of Oil and Gas Journal Russia, presented the first prize winners with annual subscriptions to the magazine. The laureates who took second places were awarded additional memorable gifts and subscriptions from the Kommersant Publishing House. The conference was held with the informational support of the leading publishing houses / editorial offices of the industry: Pipeline Transport: Theory and Practice, Gas Industry, Drilling and Oil, Oil Industry, PravoTEK group, etc.
