Results of the International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas - 2019»

More than 2100 participants from 410 organizations of the oil and gas industry, the owners of the «Oil Owl»  and the Cup of the best student association were determined - the results of the International Youth Conference «Oil and Gas - 2019» were summed up.

In the period from 22 to 25 April 2019 at the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University», by order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1960 dated September 17, 2018, the 73rd International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas - 2019» was held. In 2019, the conference was attended by more than 2100 students, postgraduates, young scientists, specialists, schoolchildren from more than 410 educational institutions and industry organizations in Russia and foreign countries.

The event started with the panel session «Oil and Gas of the Future: Youth, Leadership, Innovation», in which the Rector of Gubkin University Viktor Martynov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin, Vice President of Schlumberger Russia and Central Asia Ltd. Artem Karapetov, Chairman Shell Group Ltd. in Russia Sederic Kremers, Head of the Organizational Development and Career Management Department of PJSC LUKOIL Yuri Pikhtovnikov, Vice President of PJSC Transneft Pavel Revel-Muroz, Vice President of InfoWatch Group Rustem Khairetdinov, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CC KOLMAR LLC Anna Tsivileva. During the session, the issues of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in the oil and gas industry, the possibilities of social lifts for young people were discussed. «I would like the results of our joint work to bring in the future discoveries for the development of the oil and gas provinces of Russia», said Pavel Sorokin, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Energy. At the end of the panel discussion, the speakers answered the questions of young people.

Also on the first day of the conference, one of the key events was the face-to-face stage of the IV All-Russian competition for the best student scientific association of the oil and gas industry in Russia, at which the winners of the correspondence stage - 8 best youth teams of Russian universities, presented their projects. In 2019, projects of teams of student associations were devoted to the prospects for the development of the LNG industry (large, medium and low-tonnage). By the decision of the competition committee, formed from representatives of relevant departments and oil and gas companies, the team of the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University», who, in addition to the challenge cup for the best scientific and practical training, received a certificate for an educational trip to the production facilities of Yamal LNG LLC. The team of Kazan National Research Technological University was awarded a diploma for the 2nd place and a certificate for an educational trip to production facilities of Sakhalin Energy.

Thematic interactive trainings, seminars and panel discussions were also organized for the conference participants, which were devoted to the issues of geology, development and drilling of hydrocarbon deposits, transportation and processing of hydrocarbons, digitalization, intellectual property protection and career opportunities for young people in the oil and gas industry.

According to the program, the conference continued in 24 thematic breakout sessions. In total, over 700 scientific papers that passed preliminary competitive selection were heard at the conference during two days. In 2019, more than 170 representatives of more than 70 organizations in the oil and gas industry participated in the expert commission.

In 2019, as part of the conference, initiated by the Youth Council of the Oil and Gas Industry under the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the III All-Russian Intellectual Game among the youth of the oil and gas industry «Oil Owl» was held, in which a record 106 teams from organizations and universities of the industry in Russia and abroad took part. The leader of the intellectual game was Boris Belozerov, a young captain of the elite club and owner of the Crystal Owl. In a tense struggle, the team of young specialists of Irkutsk Oil Company LLC became the owner of the crystal «Oil Owl» 2019, the teams of Gazprom Export LLC and JSC Giprovostokneft took second and third places, respectively.

As well within the framework of the conference, a meeting without ties was traditionally held, at which the participants had the opportunity to ask any question of interest to the heads of relevant departments and oil and gas companies. The meeting was moderated by the vice-rector for scientific work of Gubkin University, Alexander Muradov, and the questions of young people were answered by the general director of Salym Petroleum Development N.V. Michael Collins, Chief Financial Officer of BHGE for Russia Caspian Elena Akoltseva, HR Director of BHGE for Russia Caspian Olga Bogatyreva, Director for Strategic Projects in Oil Production at Emerson LLC Vladimir Dibrov and Head of Offshore Projects Promotion Programs at Gazpromneft-Sakhalin LLC Alexey Fadeev.

At the meeting, questions were asked about the commercialization of scientific projects of youth, career development, the necessary competencies of specialists in the oil and gas industry, taking into account digitalization, the role of student science in the formation of an innovative scientific and technical base of enterprises in the industry, internships, internships and employment in leading oil and gas companies.

The conference ended with a ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners of the conference, competition and intellectual game.

In addition to the main gifts, the authors of the best scientific papers in thematic areas were awarded incentive prizes and certificates for internships and internships in oil and gas companies, publications of articles in industry scientific journals.
