More than 2500 participants from 420 organizations of the oil and gas industry – the results of the International forum «Oil and Gas - 2021» were summed up.

In the period from 26 to 30 April 2021 at the National University of Oil and Gas «Gubkin University», by order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1960 dated September 17, 2018, the International forum «Oil and Gas - 2021» was held. In 2021, the forum was attended by more than 2500 students, postgraduates, young scientists, specialists, schoolchildren from more than 420 educational institutions and industry organizations in Russia and foreign countries.

«I am convinced that the decision taken by the organizing committee to combine two landmark industry events - the All-Russian scientific and Technical conference «Actual problems of the development of the oil and Gas industry» and the international youth scientific conference «Oil and Gas», which has been held since 2019 with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation - will increase the already deservedly high authority of the event among the professional and academic communities» Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said in his welcoming address.

The event was started with a strategic panel session «Energy of the Future», which was attended by Viktor Martynov, Rector of Gubkin University, Elena Akoltseva, President of Baker Hughes Russia and CIS, Vadim Voevodkin, CEO of LUKOIL-Engineering LLC, Sederik Kremers, Chairman of Shell Concern in Russia, Pavel Revel-Muroz, Vice President of Transneft PJSC, Deputy Director for Production – Alexander Singurov, Head of the Prigorodnoye Production Complex of Sakhalin Energy, and Leonty Eder, Deputy General Director for Long-term Development of Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC. The moderator of the panel session was Alexey Kulapin, Director of the REA of the Ministry of Energy of Russia. During the session, issues of hydrogen energy, the Arctic as a resource base of the future, prospects for the development of IT technologies in the oil and gas industry, the use of artificial intelligence and neural networks, and many others were discussed.

«In modern conditions, the stability of the fuel and energy complex is of strategic importance for our country. Further development of the fuel and energy sector should be based on the principles of innovation and rational use of resources, ensuring environmental safety,» Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stressed in his address to the participants and guests of the forum.

Also on the first day of the forum, trainings «Digital transformation, competitiveness and leadership in the oil and gas industry» were held, the training was conducted by Sergey Mishin, Director of the Strategic Development Department in Russia and the CIS of Emerson LLC, and a motivational training «Personal Effectiveness. The program «Outbox Thinking» under the guidance of business coach Sergey Ozerov.

The second day was devoted to the XIV All-Russian Scientific and Technical Conference «Actual problems of the development of the oil and gas complex», which in turn was divided into panel sessions: Upstream, Midstream, Downstream, Automation and digitalization of the oil and gas industry, Socio-economic aspects of the activities of oil and gas industry organizations and International Energy projects. On the same day, one of the key events was the full-time stage of the V All-Russian competition for the best student scientific association of the Russian oil and gas industry, at which the winners of the correspondence stage – 9 best youth teams of Russian universities - presented their projects. In 2021, the projects of the teams of student associations were devoted to the decarbonization of the oil and gas industry. According to the decision of the competition commission, formed from representatives of relevant departments and oil and gas companies, the team of the Kuzbass State Technical University named after T.F. Gorbachev became the best.

According to the program, the work of the forum continued on 24 thematic breakout sessions of the 75th International Youth Scientific Conference «Oil and Gas». In total, more than 600 scientific papers that passed the preliminary competitive selection were heard at the conference during two days. In 2021, more than 170 representatives of more than 70 organizations of the oil and gas industry participated in the expert commission.

In 2021, the Youth Oil and Gas Hackathon Championship «Digital OilHack» was held for the first time within the framework of the forum, within which teams had to offer a case solution within 24 hours to create a data visualization system for the use of import-dependent software support in subsidiaries of PJSC Gazprom Neft. The team of Gubkin University became the winner of the championship, and the best, according to Gazprom Neft specialists, the participants received certificates for internships in the company's profile department.

On the final day of the forum, a meeting without ties was traditionally held, at which participants had the opportunity to ask any question of interest to the heads of relevant departments and oil and gas companies. The meeting was moderated by the captain of the club team «What?Where?When?» Boris Belozerov, and the questions of the youth were answered by: Michael Collins, General Director of Salym Petroleum Development NV, David Gadzhimirzaev, Executive Director of Baker Hughes Russia and CIS, Nikita Golunov, Vice-Rector for Additional Professional Education, and Pavel Galaktionov, Head of the Department for Work with Federal and supervisory Authorities of the Russian Federation of Shell Concern.

At the meeting, questions were asked about the commercialization of scientific projects of young people, career development, the necessary competencies of oil and gas industry specialists taking into account digitalization, the role of student science in the formation of an innovative scientific and technical base of industry enterprises, internships, internships and employment in leading oil and gas companies.

The forum ended with a ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners of the conference, competition and hackathon.
